Both the men’s and women’s Rugby teams at USAFA have a strong tradition of competing and winning at the highest levels, including a total of eight national championships. The warrior ethos practiced on the rugby pitch prepares cadets for any challenge they may face in battle, boardroom, or in life. The four funds are vital to ensure the rugby teams are supported at the highest level. The Rugby (Men) Operational Fund and the Rugby (Women) Operational Fund support current year needs, including travel and competition costs. The Vern Francis Perpetual Fund for Men's Rugby and Alan Osur Perpetual Fund for Women's Rugby support the long-term stability for each team. The perpetual funds are endowments that earn interest every year and have an average of 4.5% of the principal transferred into the operational fund each year for annual budget needs.
