Class of 1981 That Others May Live H3 Project Fund

The Class of 1981's “That Others May Live” project honors the courage and selflessness of those who answered the call to combat search and rescue.

For its 40th reunion, the class helped bring the long-awaited HH-3E static display to the U.S. Air Force Academy. The “Jolly Green Giant” helicopter stands as a tribute to the aircrews who flew these missions — including many Academy graduates — and reflects the class's commitment to leadership, service and the principle of never leaving anyone behind. As the "Second to None" class, the Class of 1981 remains committed to preserving this tribute and ensuring that the stories of valor and sacrifice it represents endure for future generations of cadets.

In celebration of its 45th reunion, the class is fundraising to complete phase two of this project. Gifts to this fund will support the design, development, and installation of landscaping and signage around the HH-3 static display.

Phase II Project Scope:

• Improve existing landscape around the HH-3E site similar to the Air Warrior Combat Memorial landscape
• Enhance Academy visitor experience and understanding of the Air Force rescue community
• Build a wall to display accurate rescue missions including USAFA graduates
• Establish a TOML Committee to develop a template for rescue mission storyboards
